The Artwoods
The Artwoods were a British R&B band in the mid-1960s.
Band history
Arthur "Art" Wood (vocals, harmonica), the older brother of Ron Wood ( Rolling Stones ), founded the band in 1963, which was initially called Art Wood Combo and later The Artwoods . Wood had previously sung with Alexis Korners Blues Incorporated , among others .
Other members of the Artwoods were Keef Hartley (drums, previously with Rory Storm & the Hurricanes , later with the Bluesbreakers ), Jon Lord (keyboards, later with Deep Purple ), Derek Griffiths (guitar) and Malcolm Pool (bass, later with Colosseum ) .
During their short career, the Artwoods were a popular live band that competed with groups like the Animals and the Yardbirds . However, their record sales always fell short of expectations.
The Artwoods put out a couple of singles and an album, Art Gallery . Several compilation albums were released later. The band broke up in mid-1967.
