The Barstool Philosophers (often simply Barstool Philosophers ) are a Dutch progressive rock / metal band from Almelo that was founded in 1997.

history

The band was founded in 1997 by drummer Martin Kuipers, keyboardist René Kroon, guitarist Ivo Poelman and bassist Mark Portier. All members were initially represented in other bands. They played a few songs together, but then they took a break of two years, so that in 2001 they got together again. Together they wrote new material and looked out for a singer they found in 2002 with Leon Brouwer. Towards the end of 2004 bassist Portier left the band and was replaced by Bas Hoebink. In early 2006, the band recorded a song for a charity project called "Metsel een Dorp (SOS Child Villages)". The song was called Sunrise and was written, recorded and produced within two weeks. After that, the band worked on their debut album Sparrows , which was released in September 2009.

In 2011 the band was represented at ProgPower Europe .

style

The band plays classic progressive rock and metal and is compared to bands like Dream Theater , Saga , Marillion , Pendragon , Fates Warning and Queensrÿche .
