Text from 1521

Caput afri differo
Redden's 'laudes' domino.
The bores heed in hand I bring,
With garlans gay and rosemary,
I pray you all synge merely
Qui estis in convivio.
The bores heed, I failed
Is the 'chefe' seruyce in this country;
Loke, where your found it
Seruite cum cantico.
Be gladde lordes, both more and lasse,
For this hath ordeyned our stewarde
To chere you all this Christian mass,
The bores heed with mustarde.

Newer version from Queen's College

The boar's head in hand bear I,
Bedeck'd with bays and rosemary;
And I pray you, my masters, be merry,
Quot estis in convivio
Caput Apri defero
Redden's laudes dominoes.
The boar's head, as I understand,
Is the rarest disk in all this country,
Which thus bedeck'd with a gay garland,
Let us serve cantico.
Caput Apri defero
Redden's laudes dominoes.
Our steward hath provided this
In honor of the King of Bliss;
Which is on this day to be served
In reginensi atrio.
Caput Apri defero
Redden's laudes dominoes.
