The Yshövelsche Mühle (spelling also Isshövelsche or Isshöveler Mühle , ndl. IJsheuvelmolen , also called Kendelmühle ) was a watermill located on the Kendel in the town of Goch with an undershot water wheel .

The Yshövelsche Mühle was located on the left bank of the Kendel, Möhlenbruch 32, in the Hommersum district , in the town of Goch, Kleve district , in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The Kendel has a height of approx. 13 m above sea ​​level and forms the border between Germany and the Netherlands . The care and maintenance of the water is the responsibility of the Niersverband , which is based in Viersen .

history

The mill was first mentioned in an income register of the Graefenthal monastery in 1381. Until 1793 it belonged to the Driesberg house , which it sold in private hands. The mill worked without compulsory grinding and also served as an oil mill .

With the Congress of Vienna in 1815, when the Kendel border between Germany and the Netherlands became the mill building on the Dutch side. The Müllerhaus, built later, was built on the Prussian (German) side.

The evacuation of the border area in autumn 1944 meant the end of the mill. The Dutch shut down the mill after the war . The miller's house is inhabited by the miller's descendants.
