The Goch grain mill was a water mill located on the Niers in the city of Goch with an undershot water wheel .
geography
The Goch grain mill was located on Mühlenstrasse (today Mühlengasse), on the Niers, in the town of Goch, Kleve district , in North Rhine-Westphalia . Above had the Lohmühle Goch , below the Walkmühle Goch their location.
The Niers has a height of approx. 17 m above sea level here . The care and maintenance of the water is the responsibility of the Niersverband , which is based in Viersen .
history
With the settlement and the first mention of the city of Goch in 1261, an economic basis for the construction of water mills developed on the Niersbogen and Stadtgraben. The location was so excellent that five mills could use the water power of the Niers over a short distance . In the so-called Mühlenviertel near the Mühlentor, these were the Goch oil mill, Goch fulling mill, Goch grain mill, Goch Lohmühle and a little further away and later the Susmühle .
In the Gocher Schöffenbriefe of 1272 and 1275, the existence of a mill was communicated in which a Gerhardus molendarius - Müller Gerhard was named. In 1362 the Graefenthal abbot Isabel von Geldern - a sister of the Duke - gave the mills she had left for use to the city of Goch. With the consent of the duke, in 1367 this became a leasehold , which, if necessary, was linked to the right to enable the construction of further wind and water mills. In addition to the existing water mills, windmills were also built , which, due to seasonal restrictions with regard to the Nierswiesen, became more and more important.
The Goch grain mill was one of the mills that was given to the city in 1367. In 1643 the grain mill was confiscated by the Brandenburg tax authorities due to the city's arrears and only returned years later. In 1720 it was one of the Royal Mills. In 1836 the widow Jansen was named as the owner of the water oil mill, with 1 worker, 1 press, 200 quintals annual production of 17 thalers per hundredweight. In 1846 the mill is run under the name Jansen'sche Mehl- und Ölmühle . Heinrich van den Bogart bought the mill in 1854 and the tenant Willemsen renovated and widened both mill wheels of the grain mill in 1858. The wheel of the oil mill remained. In 1872 the mill was renamed Königsmühle and again changed hands to Otto Jansen in 1884 . After the fire in 1903, the mill was restored as a flour mill and shut down in 1932. The buildings are now used for commercial purposes .
