The Niers has a height of approx. 15 m above sea level . The care and maintenance of the water is the responsibility of the Niersverband , which is based in Viersen .
history
In a document dated May 18, 1301, Count Rainald I (Geldern) donated the water mill on the Niers River in Asper to the Cistercian women from the Graefenthal monastery . In return, the Count's House was given a Holy Mass every day . The abbot leased the mill to the v. Family. Wachtendonk, which she in turn had a head miller run.
When the mill burned down in 1595, it was the wealthy builder Hendrick of Beloe , the son of the upper miller in annual lease awarded. The descendants of Hendricks called themselves von de Loe and from around 1800 van de Loo . During the secularization , the van de Loo owned the mill in 1805 and rebuilt it. From 1864 on, a second water wheel, a gang saw and an oil press were used in addition to the grain mill . With the river straightening and the removal of the dams in 1932, the mill was converted to steam and electric drive. A fire in 1959 put an end to the milling trade at Aspermühle.
In the following years, various companies settled in the Asperdener Mühle, including a cocoa dealer and a publishing house . After that, the building stood empty for a few years.
Since the end of 2009 there has been a lot of activity in the former mill building in Asperden, because naturwaren-Niederrhein GmbH has settled here and trades in beekeeping and natural products.
Since then, extensive restoration work has been carried out, including a. the roof structure and roofing was renewed and the old wheel house and warehouse shine again in their old splendor.
