The Classics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Classics were a Dutch pop band that also achieved some international success in the 1970s.

history

Founded in 1967, the group had their first major success in 1972 with My Lady of Spain , which made them known beyond the borders of the Netherlands . A German version of the title was published in 1973 by Michael Holm .

The next international success was Yellow Sun of Ecuador in 1974 , which also hit the charts in Germany (38th place). Other successful titles include Papa Peppone (1975) and Wings of an Eagle (1978).

The regular cast of the group consisted of Ber Kwaspen ( drums ), Harry Broens ( vocals , guitar , flute ), Jo Hoofwijk ( bass ) and Rolph Broens (vocals). Over the years there have been numerous other musicians who have temporarily strengthened the band.

The sound of the band is almost identical to that of most Palingound bands, but is not included because the band does not come from Volendam, but from Limburg. The term "Vlaaiensound" is used for bands from Limburg with a Palingound-like sound.

In 1990 The Classics broke up.

In 2010 the band formed again. De Classics Revival Band consists of:

  • Harrie Broens - vocals, guitar
  • Rolph Broens - organ, guitar, vocals
  • Erik Jeurninck - bass, vocals
  • Edward Venbrucx - drums
