The Walkers were a Dutch country rock and pop group from the 1970s.

biography

The band went in 1963 from a formation called The Mosam Skiffle Group produced and played pop music with Skiffle - accent , the come by a little later to the group singer Jean Innemee was coined. The single There’s No More Corn on the Brasos was the first chart success and reached number four in the Netherlands in February 1971. Four months later it followed with My Darling Helena! another hit at number four on the domestic hit parade. The third top 10 hit, Taboo , made it to number eight in the Netherlands in August 1972 and rose to number 38 on the German single charts in October .

When René Innemee joined The Walkers in 1973, the group changed their musical style towards country , but remained successful. Dance of Love reached number ten in August 1973, Oh, Lonesome Me in January 1974 number twelve and Jack of Diamond in May number 21 in the Dutch charts.

In 1977, The Walkers, along with The Classics and Rainbow, were among the first prizewinners in Limburg's Vastelaovesleedjes Konkoer, an annual competition for the best carnival song. The Vaan Eèsjde tot de Mookerhei , composed by Jean Innemee, is still a popular hit in the fifth season . With the title Ramona te quiero , the band returned to the Dutch charts for the last time in September of that year, this time at number 21.

The Walkers existed until 1979. The successor formation The Press had two hit singles in the Netherlands in the early 1980s ( I'm Gonna Shoot the Deejay and Cantara Pepe ).
