The Color Run
The Color Run is a 5 km running event inspired by the Indian spring festival Holi , where the runners are pelted with bright colors. The run took place in 2013 in over 130 cities in North and South America, Europe and Australia - in Germany there were 12 events.
Procedure and participants
Before the start of the five-kilometer run, each participant receives a white T-shirt and a headband. The runners cross so-called “color zones”, which are assigned a certain color, at intervals of one kilometer. There they are pelted by helpers with the respective color (consisting of corn flour and food coloring). At the end of the run the “Finish Festival” takes place, where the participants can throw the color that was previously given out.
According to the organizer, 70 percent of the participants in 2012 were women between 18 and 40 years of age. 60 percent of the participants took part in a 5 km run for the first time . In contrast to other running events, the Color Run is not about speed, but only about fun, which is why there is no time measurement.

The Color Run was invented by Travis Snyder and first performed in January 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona with 6,000 participants. In 2012 the Color Run took place in over 50
US cities with over 600,000 participants. In February 2013, the organizer signed a multi-year contract with IMG Worldwide to organize the Color Run in Europe and Asia in the future.
