The Creation is an American clay-animated short film directed by Will Vinton from 1981.

action

God feels alone because he cannot take care of anything. He creates the sun with the moon and stars and the earth with mountains and valleys that are shaped by his footprints. He creates the seas and seas and populates them with animals. Still lonely in the world, in the end he creates an image out of clay, man.

production

The Creation is based on the eponymous poem by James Weldon Johnson , which is spoken by James Earl Jones in the film . The film was animated in Clay Painting by Joan C. Gratz . It was the first film to be made using clay painting, a technique in which colored plasticine is treated like oil paint and shapes and colors seem to fuse together.

Awards

The Creation was nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film " in 1982 , but could not prevail against Crac .
