The Faraway Part of Town (mutatis mutandis The remote part of the city is) a song from the soundtrack of the film Pepe - What can the world already cost from 1960. Composed became the song by André Previn , texted by Dory Langdon . The title is sung in the film by Judy Garland in a radio recording.

Dory Langdon was married to Andre Previn from 1959 to 1970. With him she wrote a number of songs for films.

In 1961 , The Faraway Part of Town was nominated for an Oscar in the “Best Song” category. The award, however, went to Manos Hadjidakis and the song Ta pedia tou Pirea (English title Never on Sunday ) from the comedy film Sonntags ... nie! where it was sung by Melina Mercouri .

Cover versions

Eileen Farrell , an opera singer, sang the song on Columbia Records in 1962 on her LP This Fling Called Love . The orchestra Percy Faith played . The song was later also part of their album On the Sunnyside of the Street . The Artistry Jazz Group released the song on their DVD We Like Previn .

A newer version of the song is by David Pascucci.

The jazz discographer Tom Lord lists a cover version of the title in the field of jazz; Stephanie Nakasian interpreted the song on her album French Cookin ' (1991), accompanied by Bobby Routch , Hod O'Brien , Knobby Totah and Ray Mosca .
