Jimmy Gilmer & the Fireballs
Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs were a successful American pop band in the 1960s . It was founded in 1958 under the name "The Fireballs".
Career
The quartet was able to win the music producer Norman Petty , the manager of Buddy Holly , as their manager. He had his own recording studio and produced the first single Torquay , an instrumental piece that reached number 39 on the US charts.
In 1963 the company was renamed Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs . The single Sugar Shack reached number 1 on the charts and had a million seller . The number one hit stayed at number one for five weeks and featured a flute, Hammond Solovox organ and a 6-string Danelectro bass and was the top-selling hit of 1963, ahead of Paul , with 1.18 million copies sold & Paula with Hey Paul (1.03 million).
The formation broke up in the late 1960s.
