The Flies

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Flies were a British rock band that were active on the psychedelic London rock scene from 1966 to 1968 . Sometimes they are referred to as "the first punk band in the world".

history

The Flies emerged from the band "The Rebs", who recorded an album in 1965 as "The In-Sect". In 1966 they called themselves "The Flies" and recorded a few singles for Decca . The best known of these recordings is (I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone .

The Flies were not very successful commercially, but caused a stir with their performances. At the " 14 Hour Technicolor Dream " festival in April 1967 they burst numerous bags of flour over the audience. During this performance, singer Robin Hunt is said to have urinated on the audience.

In 1968 the last single of the Flies, The Magic Train , was released, after which they split up. The members continued with other bands such as Infinity, Please, Bulldog Band and T2. In 1967, while the Flies were still active, their singer Robin Hunt had released the single Alexander Bell Believes / A Hymn ... With Love under the pseudonym Alexander Bell . All recordings of the Flies including In-Sect with additional demo material and the two titles by Alexander Bell were republished in 2002 as The Flies: Complete Collection 1965-1968 .
