The Glebe

The Glebe is a farm on the Scottish Shetland island of Bressay . In 1997 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B. It is a farm in the regional historical style, as it is only preserved in a few cases today. In particular, the structure and the building material used are exemplary and historically valuable when considering this type of building.

description

The farm dates from the late 19th century. It has an L-shaped floor plan and is constructed on one level. The individual building sections house living areas, stables and a kiln. The buildings consist of a dry stone wall of quarry stone . Today the farm is empty and is partly in a poor structural condition. It is for this reason that The Glebe was added to the list of endangered buildings in Scotland in 2008. The overall condition is described as ruinous. The roof of the living area has collapsed in the meantime. The hazard to the building is classified as critical.
