The Grease Band

The Grease Band ( English for the grease band ) was a British rock band formed in 1966 by Joe Cocker (vocals) and Chris Stainton (bass, keyboards) in Sheffield . The Northern Irish guitarist Henry McCullough worked as lead guitarist , who then joined Paul McCartney's newly formed group Wings .

As a backing band to Cocker, she was on his first hit single Marjorine in 1968, which surprisingly became a top 50 hit in the UK . The next single, a cover version of the Beatles song With a Little Help from My Friends , even reached number 1 on the charts . This was followed by tours and in 1969 the appearance at the Woodstock Festival , which the group and their singer also in the United Statesmade known. 1970 Cocker split from the band to continue his career alone. The Grease Band then played their own album, but broke up afterwards in 1971. In 1975 there was a brief reunion that spawned a second album before the final breakup occurred.
