The Hoosiers [ huʃɛʁs ] is a three- piece British indie band , originally formed under the name The Hoosier Complex in London . Under the production of Toby Grafty-Smith, a former member of the band Jamiroquai , the three musicians achieved their breakthrough in autumn 2007 with their debut album in their home country. In 2008 the band was nominated for "Best British Single" at the BRIT Awards .

Members

  • Irwin Sparkes (vocals, guitar)
  • Martin Skarendahl (bass)
  • Alfonso Sharland (drums)

Career

According to their own biography, the Exeter and Reading native Sharland and Sparkes spent some time in the United States, where they studied at the University of Indianapolis on a sports scholarship . At the same time they wrote songs. On their return to London they met the Swedish sound engineer Skarendahl.

After the band had received a record deal with RCA Records , the band's debut single was released in June 2007 under the title Worried About Ray . The recording, which have strong bonds with the hit Happy Together the Turtles of 1967 assumes reaching number 5 of the UK singles charts. The video, in which the band fights with a Cyclops figure who has come to life, is inspired by the American trick technician and animator Ray Harryhausen .

With the second single Goodbye Mr A they confirmed this success.

The debut album The Trick to Life , released at the end of October 2007, went straight to number 1 in the UK charts. In 2008 The Hoosiers headlined the German venues on James Blunt's "All the Lost Souls" tour .
