The Hub seen from the Royal Mile

The Hub is a former church building in the Scottish capital Edinburgh . It's at the top of the Royal Mile. The building now houses several function rooms, the largest of which can accommodate 420 people, a café and a library . The premises can be rented for weddings, banquets and receptions. The church tower belonging to the building is the highest point in downtown Edinburgh.

History of the building

Today's festival headquarters was originally the Highland Tolbooth Church . It was in the years 1839 to 1844 for the Church of Scotland in the Gothic Revival style built. The architects were Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin and James Gillespie Graham . Due to the union of the Church of Scotland with the United Free Church of Scotland , the church was closed in 1979. After the building had stood empty for a few years, it was initially used as a boardroom for the Scottish Parliament . It was then converted into a venue with a café and restaurant, as the Scottish Parliament had its own building on Holyrood in 2004.
