The Killing Star is a science fiction novel by George Zebrowski and Charles Pellegrino that describes the annihilation of humanity by hostile aliens .

content

The novel begins in 2076, nine days before the three hundredth day of independence : Mankind made great technical advances when, without warning, aliens bombed the earth with kinetic projectiles that were accelerated to almost the speed of light: a large part of humanity is wiped out within seconds .

The book follows the struggle for survival of the last people who are mercilessly hunted by the aliens:

Only two people survive on earth who survived the bombardment in a deep-sea submarine , people are also hiding in the corona of the sun , but who later destroy their habitat and the entire sun with high-energy weapons in order to keep the aliens out of their hands to fall.

After the survivors who had hidden on Ceres , Neptune and in interstellar space are killed in the course of the book, the last people on earth are also taken by the aliens.

When talking to an octopus-like creature, they discover that it was not the latter who initiated the invasion, but the spider-like robots that seem to serve them. - In fact, these have become conscious and now keep their creators as pets as they travel the universe and wipe out civilizations that could potentially be dangerous to them. - The extermination of the earth was "not meant personally".
