The Kink Controversy is the third studio album by the British rock group The Kinks . It was recorded October 23-30, 1965 and published in England on November 26, 1965.

While the band's first two albums were still a collection of hit singles, B-sides and third-party compositions, indications of Ray Davies' future compositional ambitions can be recognized for the first time on this album, for example with Ring The Bells , The World Keeps Going Round or I'm on an Iceland . Kink Kontroversy was the first Kinks LP to be positively received by music critics, an appreciation that the band would receive regularly over the next few years.

With the opening track of the album, the Milk Cow Blues , which was previously known mainly from Elvis Presley , the band took a third-party composition onto an album for the last time. Otherwise, Kink Kontroversy also features the A and B sides of a recently released single: Till the End of the Day was another variation on the musical theme of the 1964 hit single, You Really Got Me , and a hit in several European countries. Where Have All The Good Times Gone , wasted as a B-side, is also one of the Kinks classics and is not missing from any best-of collection.

The LP reached number 9 in the British charts (and number 8 in Germany), making it one of the band's most successful albums in England. In the US, the Kinks only reached a disappointing 95th place after the band's first records had sold very well there.

The title of the album is an allusion to the band's bad reputation, which they had acquired during live performances with brawls between the band members on and between the fans in front of the stage and which ultimately resulted in a performance ban in the USA that lasted until 1969.
