The Kiss in the Tunnel is a British short film directed in 1899 by George Albert Smith . The film's exterior scenes were filmed on the train route between Brighton and Hove .
Movie content
The film shows a train ride through a railway tunnel. A man and a woman sit in a train compartment and kiss after a short while.
Background information
The film is one of the first films to use the Phantom Ride technique , and the film also bows to the American film The Kiss from 1896. Some films had previously used the Phantom Ride technique, but these attempts were technically speaking less successful.
Laura Smith appeared in several films with her husband George Albert Smith .
Several shots of a train were used and edited for the shooting. The film was produced by GAS Films and the Warwick Trading Company and published in America by American Mutoscope & Biograph . The British publication took over the Warwick Trading Company.
The film became known under both the title The Kiss in the Tunnel and A Kiss in the Tunnel .
The film was included in the BFI collection .
