The Neverhood is a computer game created by Doug TenNapel in 1996 and published by DreamWorks Interactive . The entire game world was made from three tons of plasticine . As in the production of an animated film with modeling clay, all images had to be photographed individually and put together for animation.
Because of the music by Terry Scott Taylor , the original animations and characters, and the quirky humor, the game still has a relatively large following, despite being out of print for years . As before, there are many active by fans designed fan websites, and the soundtrack sold well.
Experienced adventure gamers often criticize The Neverhood for the fact that the puzzles are disproportionate to the plot and just consist of not very original logical puzzles (e.g. sliding puzzles). Fans of the game counter that the atmosphere and the loving elaboration of the game world are the most important part of the game and the puzzles are rather secondary. There is a 38 screen room on which the complete background of the Neverhood is written down. In the main menu of this game you can look at various production processes with original comments from the developers.
A successor called Skullmonkeys was released for the Playstation in 1998.
Since official support for the game has not existed for years, e.g. B. Updates for modern operating systems , a fan group began to create compatibility fixes in the Neverhood Restoration Project in 2013 .
