history

The company was founded in 1992 by merging the duty-free activities of Swissair and Crossair . With the takeover of the two Australian duty-free operators Downtown Duty Free and City International Duty Free in 1995 and Allders International Duty Free and Island Companies in 1996, Nuance grew into one of the leading operators of airport and duty-free shops. In 2002 Nuance was taken over by the two Italian companies GECOS / Gruppo PAM and Stefanel with 50 percent each. In 2011, the private equity group PAI partners took over Stefanel's stake.

In September 2014 the company was taken over by the competitor Dufry for 1.55 billion Swiss francs.
