The Oval is a football stadium in the Northern Irish capital Belfast .

Glentoran FC has played its home games in the stadium since 1892. It's on Dee Street in East Belfast . During World War II , The Oval was bombed in 1941 and Glentoran had to move to Grosvenor Park . After the stadium was rebuilt with the help of Cliftonville FC and Lisburn Distillery , it reopened in August 1949. The current grandstands were built by 1953.

According to current requirements and protective measures, 15,000 spectators can fit into the stadium. The record of 55,000 spectators was set at a European Cup match against the Glasgow Rangers .

As new laws are planned that will result in stricter regulations, the club, which sold the site in 2003, is considering building a new stadium.

The London cricket stadium is also referred to as The Oval .
