The Phoenix is an electric car made from 90% recycled materials and built by IT Asset Partners Inc. (ITAP) over the course of 35 days for only $ 13,000. The aim was to explore the possibilities and potential that emerged from the electrical yield -Recycling and developed by ITAP process, the so-called "hybrid Recycling" to demonstrate. The vehicle holds the world record of 999.5 miles (1,608.5 km) for the greatest distance traveled by an electric vehicle on a single charge (excluding solar energy ).

Overview

The Phoenix was built in Chatsworth , California by e-waste recycling pioneer Eric Lundgren. He is the founder and former CEO of ITAP Inc., America's leading hybrid recycling company specializing in e-waste recycling and reverse logistics, among other things.

The Phoenix is a scrapped BMW E39 528i (1997) that has been converted into an electric vehicle. Its range is 38% greater than that of a Tesla Model S P100D. The interior of the recycled car was completely removed except for the driver and passenger seats and it was equipped with an electric motor, the control unit of an electric forklift and a recycled 130 kWh battery pack . The cells in lithium-ion batteries come from everyday electronic devices.

Hybrid recycling

Lundgren built The Phoenix to demonstrate what is known as "hybrid recycling" and its benefits. With "Hybrid Recycling" products are broken down into their individual components. These are then reused in second-life applications instead of the conventional recycling, where the dismantled components are returned to the production cycle as raw materials.

Long distance record

On the weekend of August 9, 2017, The Phoenix broke the Tesla Model SP100D's world record of 1,083 km on a single charge. He covered a distance of 1203 km on California public highways and roads in both highway conditions and stop-and-go traffic. The average speed was 84 kilometers per hour.

On October 16, 2017, The Phoenix set the Guinness World Record for the greatest distance traveled by an electric vehicle on a single charge (excluding solar power) at Auto Club Motor Speedway in Fontana , California By means of hypermiling, he managed to break the previous record of 1298 km, which was set in Japan in 2013.
