Anthony Hugh Selormey (* 2. March 1937 in Dzolukope , Keta , Volta Region ) is a Ghanaian politician and lieutenant colonel , who after the military coup of 13 January 1972 Member of the National Salvation Council NRC ( National Redemption Council ) was and 1972-1973 Commissioner for Transport and Communication and then between 1973 and 1975 Commissioner for Health.

Life

Selormey, who comes from the Ewe people , attended the Catholic Mission School and then the Bishop Herman Secondary School in Kpandu , which he completed in 1958 with a West African School Certificate . In April 1961 he joined the land forces of the armed forces of Ghana and began officer training at the Ghana Military Academy in Teshie , which he graduated as a lieutenant in April 1962 . He also completed a course for tank drivers and company commanders at the center of the Royal Armored Corps at Bovington Camp in Dorset . He was also the first Ghanaian in 1967 to complete a training course in tank warfare at the tank school in Fort Knox . During his stay there, he also attended courses in personnel management and studies on foreign forces at the US Intelligence School .

After his return to Ghana, Selormey was an instructor at the Ghana Military Academy in Teshie between 1967 and 1970 and was then major in command of the tank regiment stationed in the Gondar barracks near Accra . In this capacity he was one of the young officers, alongside Major Kwame Baah and KB Agbo , who, under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, deposed President Edward Akufo-Addo and Prime Minister Kofi Abrefa Busia in a military coup on January 13, 1972 . He then became on January 14, 1972 a member of the National Redemption Council ( NRC ) and assistant to JH Cobbina , the inspector general of the police. Shortly thereafter he became Commissioner (Minister) for Information and Broadcasting and in May 1972 Commissioner for Transport and Communications, whereupon Colonel CR Tachie-Menson became the new Commissioner for Information. In the course of a further restructuring of the National Salvation Council, he took over on May 1, 1973 from Colonel JC Adjeitey the post of Commissioner for Health. He was also promoted to lieutenant colonel during this time . In the space formed in October 1975 under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Acheampong Supreme Military SMC ( Supreme Military Council ) , he was not appointed.
