The Russian Doctors is a band that was founded in Leipzig in 2003 . The German-language texts are alleged poems by the fictional Russian poet SW Pratajev.

history

The Russian Doctors (Frank Bröker, Holger Oley)

The Russian Doctors' singer Holger "Makarios" Oley , aka Doctor Makarios , has been in the music business for a long time. He was also known as the singer of Die Art . In 2003 he founded the band The Russian Doctors in Leipzig together with the guitarist Frank Bröker , alias Doctor Pichelstein , who is well known from the Münster culture scene . Bröker has already worked as an author, festival organizer and musician (“Caution Screams”, “Fette Helden”, “Spark * n bow”, “Poets in Arms”).

style

According to the band, the texts are based on poems by the (fictional) person of Sergeij Waschowitsch Pratajev (allegedly 1902 to 1961), a supposed Russian veterinarian, drinker and womanizer. This is reflected in the song content, in which there is often e.g. B. is about scenes from the life of a veterinarian, women’s stories and copious consumption of alcohol. The band's albums and book releases are based on this legend about Pratajev. In 2007 a further project was set up with the “Pratajev Society”, a specialist society that holds annual specialist conferences to research the life and work of Pratajev.

The music of The Russian Doctors defies simple classification into common categories. It is characterized by the very fast played guitar Bröker and the distinctive, rough voice of the singer Oley.
