The Searchers were a British rock group that was particularly successful in the 1960s and had several hits. Her best-known titles are Needles and Pins , Sugar and Spice , Sweets for My Sweet , Love Potion No. 9 and When You Walk in the Room .
Like the Beatles, the group comes from Liverpool and belongs to the music genre of the Mersey Beat .
history
The Searchers were founded in Liverpool in 1960. The original cast consisted of John McNally, Mike Pender (real name: Michael John Prendergast), Tony Jackson and Norman McGarry. The latter, however, was replaced shortly afterwards by Chris Curtis . The group was named after the eponymous western The Searchers starring John Wayne .
Like many beat groups in the early 1960s, the Searchers' career in 1962 took them to the famous Hamburg Star Club for a few months , where they performed for an hour every evening.
The fact that cover versions of their greatest successes hit the charts again meant that the Searchers came back into general music memory and gave them a small comeback , which was mainly represented in appearances at oldie shows. Mike Pender's Searchers split off in 1986 from the band, fronted by Frank Allen (who had been with the band since August 1964) .
Even at the beginning of the 21st century, the Searchers gave around 250 concerts a year and toured New Zealand, Australia and Canada for several weeks each year. In 2010 concerts took place in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the Philippines .
In January 2010, after their tour of Australia, the drummer Eddie Rothe left the group for family reasons. Scott Ottaway succeeds him. At the end of March 2019, the Searchers gave their last concert. The separation had been planned for a long time and was amicable.
