The Simple Image was a New Zealand rock band that existed from 1967 to 1971. She reached the New Zealand top ten four times including number 1 spinning, spinning, spinning .

history

The band was formed in 1967 by three employees from Todd Motors (Barry Leef ( rhythm guitar ), Ron Gascoigne ( bass ) and Harry Leki ( lead guitar )), supplemented by drummer Alan Gordon (who was followed by Gordon Wylie in 1968). After first appearances at weddings, they met the agency UBA through agent Tom McDonald, through whose intermediary they played on a cruise ship in the Pacific.

In early 1968 she released Two Kinds of Lovers , which peaked at No. 11 in New Zealand. The top hit Spinning Spinning Spinning was also released in the UK and the Netherlands and stayed at the top of the charts in New Zealand for two weeks. She later released an album of the same name.

In 1969, Simple Image won the Group Award at the NEBOA Entertainer Of The Year Awards . That same year the group also released an EP called Four Hits from the Simple Image . A little later, The Simple Image tried unsuccessfully to gain a musical foothold in Australia . In 1971, The Simple Image disbanded. Harry Leki returned to Wellington . and joined the band Arkastra . Leef joined the Perth rock band Bakery in 1973 and founded the Barry Leef Group in 1975.

In 2001 EMI released the CD Spinning Spinning Spinning - The Complete Simple Image with the cover and titles of the album of the same name, all singles and two previously unreleased tracks.
