The Sisters (Moriori: Rangitatahi , dt "The Sisters.") Are a group of small, rocky islands in the archipelago of to New Zealand belonging Chatham Islands in the southwestern Pacific Ocean .
geography
The islands are located 27 km northwest of Cape Young , the northernmost point of the main island of Chatham Island , and thus represent the northernmost landmass of the Chatham Islands. The Sisters consists of three islands:
- Big Sister (Rangitatahi, 7.7 acres)
- Middle Sister (Te Awanui, 4.8 hectares)
- Little Sister (to the east, 7.3 acres)
fauna
The remote islands are an important breeding area for seabirds , especially for the Northern King Albatross ( Diomedea sanfordi ), whose world's largest populations are here and on the Forty-Fours archipelago .
