The Sugarettes are a Dutch indie rock band from Eindhoven .
history
The band was founded by Joep van Son and Mariska "Iskaa" Louman. In 2006 they released the demo EP Sugarettecity . They submitted this to a competition organized by Studio Brussels, where the song Claps was included in the regular playlist. In 2007 they were signed by Subroutine Records and released their debut album Love & Other Perversities in the fall .
Allmusic's Andrew Leahey called them the Dutch equivalent of the Dandy Warhols in his review of their debut . The album contains a song about the porn legend Ron Jeremy and remains on the subject of sex in the pieces Jolene and Claps . Ready Steady was song of the day on January 3, 2008 on Australian radio station KEXP.
After the release of the album and concerts like the Noorderslag Festival in Groningen , the members mainly worked on other projects like Nikoo, where three of the four were or are active, and Foam, where half of the Sugarettes are involved.
In 2011 they released a split single with label mates from Space Siren and in 2012 the second album Destroyers of Worlds followed . Bassist Cox Dieben was replaced by Marjolein Kooijman, who has also been a member of The Gathering since 2003 .
