The Tower ( French La Tour , both sides translated The Tower ) is a 345 m (according to the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee around 365 m ) high and apart from the summit snow-covered mountain on King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises immediately west of Demay Point on the west side of the entrance to Admiralty Bay .
Participants in the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908-1910) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot mapped and named him. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this designation into English in 1952.
