In April 1973 the band appeared on the ZDF television show disco with the song Wabash Cannonball . As the first European country band, The Tumbleweeds played behind the Iron Curtain in 1973 and toured Romania for two weeks . In 1974 and 1975 they played two tours through the United States , during which they a. a. in the Country - radio show Grand Ole Opry and Carnegie Hall occurred. The group was also nominated for best band, best singers and best instrumentalists at the Country Music Awards . Despite the successful tour, there was no breakthrough in the USA.
The band was very successful in the Netherlands in the mid-1970s and had two albums in the top 10 with Tumbleweeds (1974, No. 4) and Sweet Memories (1976, No. 8). The single Somewhere Between rose to No. 2 in the summer of 1975, It Might as Well Have Rained made it to number 15 at the end of the year and Sweet Memories climbed to number 23 in 1976.
After Ad Masseurs had a car accident on the way to a gig in Germany in 1977 and singer Ruud Hermans also left the band, the group's popularity declined. In 1980 Ine Masseurs also withdrew into private life to look after the family. Eventually, The Tumbleweeds split in 1982.
