The Violinist is a 1959 American animated short film directed by Ernest Pintoff .

action

Harry is an amateur violin player. He likes to hunt birds, likes to eat on the subway, and is fat. His game is without feeling, so that it scares all the passers-by he plays on the street. Only Felix the dog likes his music. Harry goes to the music teacher Andreas Fillinger, who advises him to suffer in order to be able to give feeling to his playing. Harry now grows a beard, no longer hunts birds, no longer eats in the subway and generally goes hungry, so that he is emaciated. His game is now soulful, but his appearance scares off passers-by and Felix prefers to bite his leg now. Again Harry goes to Andreas Fillinger, who is horrified because Harry has clearly exaggerated the suffering. Harry is now starting to hunt birds again, shaving, eating on the subway and gaining weight and playing as he likes.
