Ernest Pintoff
Ernest Pintoff (born December 15, 1931 in Watertown , Connecticut , † January 12, 2002 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles , California ) was an American film director , producer and screenwriter .
Life
Pintoff grew up in New York and received after graduating in graphic design at Syracuse University mid-1950s, employment at the UPA animation studio . However, he changed it shortly to Terrytoons , where he developed the screenplay for the animated - Short FLEBUS wrote. He then made his own and produced the 1959 short film The Violinist , for which he for the Oscar and a British Film Academy Award nomination. In 1963 he won an Oscar for directing the animated satire The Critic, written by Mel Brooks .
In 1971 he made the film collage Dynamite Chicken , in which John Lennon , Richard Pryor and Andy Warhol appeared. Between the mid-1970s and mid-1980s, Pintoff worked as a director on various television series such as Kojak - Use in Manhattan , Dallas and MacGyver, as well as some television films. After a stroke in 1985, he ended his film career and worked as a lecturer at various institutes such as the American Film Institute , the California Institute of the Arts and the University of California .
