Thea Koch gable

Thea Koch-Giebel (born August 26, 1929 in Wesermünde ; † February 4, 2018 ) was a German painter .

Life

Thea Koch-Giebel studied at the Bremen State Art School from 1947 to 1949. Then there was a change to the University of Fine Arts (HfBK) Hamburg. Between 1953 and 1959 they got married, moved to Bremerhaven and had three children. In 1960 she joined the Association of Visual Artists, Landesgruppe Oldenburg. Until 1969 she dealt with non-representational picture composition. In 1963 she created an altar glass window for the Thomaskirche in Oldenburg / Ofenerdiek. In 1970 she began her artistic exploration of the human figure and began teaching as an art teacher (contract teacher). 1974–1983 she worked at the New High School in Oldenburg. In 1983 she created material pictures in a studio in Osternburg (Oldenburg). In 1985 she became a freelance painter. At Koch-Giebel, references to existential questions about people, their bodies and the nature around them were created through the figure. In 1987 she had a studio in Achternmeer, Oldenburg. The beginning of a new occupation with landscapes followed. In 1993 she worked in the Wilke studio in Bremerhaven. In 1996 she went on study trips to Chile, Easter Island and Malta. In 1998 she made the film with the filmmaker Fabian Becker on behalf of the City of Oldenburg's Department of Culture: “Taking the skin to the market”.
