Programmatic orientation

The theater 89 follows a concept of the performance of seldom played, forgotten or sidelined authors as well as the discovery and promotion of new playwrights and new writing. When it comes to the choice of material and plays and the playing styles, a “view from below” on history and society is decisive, as the theater puts it.

In addition to dramatic texts, game versions are also developed from epic or film templates or collages made of literary, scenic, artistic and musical material are shown.

The theater 89 has developed an unmistakable profile in the German theater scene, which is recognized by the audience and the specialist critics.

The theater 89 sees himself as a successor Bertolt Brecht and is characterized by avanciertes ensemble playing and working with lay people. It wins well-known and still unknown authors, actors, directors, scenographers, musicians and artists for its projects.

The theater 89 is networked in many ways. It maintains lively contacts with its visitors, with cultural associations and parishes, with schools and pupils, and has sponsors, partners and bases in the state of Brandenburg, Berlin and all of Germany.
