Hans-Joachim Frank

Hans-Joachim Frank (born August 19, 1954 in Marisfeld ) is a German actor , director and theater director.

life and work

Frank's career began at the age of eight when he made his acting debut at the Meininger Theater . At the age of 16, he began studying at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin , which he completed in 1974 as one of the youngest graduates. In the same year he was brought to the Berliner Ensemble by the then director Ruth Berghaus and cast for the main role of Pawel in Brecht'sThe Mother ”. In 1983 Frank directed a play for the first time, followed by work as a solo artist, which took him to numerous international stages.

In 1987 Frank quit the Berliner Ensemble and in 1989 founded theater 89 , a free author's theater in Berlin-Mitte, which he has been artistic director ever since.

In addition to his theater work, the artist was also active as a film and television actor for DEFA and television in the GDR from 1975 to 1987 .
