Old warehouse (Niedergörsdorf)
Altes Lager is a district of the municipality Niedergörsdorf in the district of Teltow-Fläming in Brandenburg ( Germany ).
history
The founding date is October 7, 1870, when the Prussian military bought a total of 20 hectares of land from the village of Zinna to build barracks there. The military accommodated a total of around 9,000 French prisoners of war from the Franco-German War . They were used for forced labor in the expansion of the shooting range that had existed since 1864. After the construction of a second barrack camp for the Jüterbog artillery school , it was initially referred to as "Camp 1". Later on, the terms “old camp” and “new camp” became commonplace for the two military settlements that, like “Jüterbog 2”, belonged to the military estate district “Schießplatz Jüterbog”. Many of the forced laborers died and were on some type as Franzosenfriedhof mentioned cemetery buried near the munitions plant. There the stonemason Schnürpel erected a war memorial in 1871 .
In 1916, during the First World War , the Altes Lager airfield , a central airship port with a chemical factory and airship barracks , was built on the district . After the end of the war, the facilities were dismantled and the halls demolished. During the time of National Socialism in 1933 an air base, an aeronautical technical school and an air aircraft office were established. This office was taken on April 20, 1945 by the Red Army and used for its own purposes. On September 15, 1946, the residents elected their own municipal council, creating an independent municipality called the Altes Lager . Due to the extensive Soviet garrison , the German town was in the middle of the restricted military area until the early 1990s .
The abandoned military airfield has meanwhile been permanently approved as a special landing site for hang-gliders, paragliders and ultralight aircraft. The holder is the Drachenflieger-Club Berlin e. V. The place is also the towing center east of the German Hang Glider Association e. V.
On December 31, 1997, the community was incorporated into Niedergörsdorf.
In 1994 historians discovered the obelisk erected in 1871 on the site of the ammunition plant and in 2004, in coordination with the monument protection authorities, moved it to Kastanienallee , which runs south through the town from the station. Opposite is the cultural center Das Haus and the Garrison History Museum . The memorial was cleaned and repaired. The Latin inscription was also made visible again. The translation reads: "The grieving fatherland erected this stone in 1871 for the French soldiers who were brought from Saxony to Jüterbog by the war accident and who hoped for heavenly fame instead of unearned earthly gain through their death." A restorer replaced missing parts and made a helmet from sandstone, which was placed on the top of the monument. On September 13, 2008, the obelisk was presented to the public on the occasion of the Open Monument Day .
