The Theater im Zimmer Berlin was founded in 1985 by Nikolaus Timm based on the theater of the same name in Hamburg . The theater did not have a permanent ensemble, but gave actors or directors a chance. Nikolaus Timm was artistic director, director and actor at the same time. He later found active support from Karlheinz Scholz. It was played in different places in the city, mainly in what was then the Atelier Internationale Kunst, both in a café and a discotheque. In 1987 the theater also took part in the Berlin Theatertreffen on the stage of the ticket hall with scenes from “The Beautiful Unresponsive” and “The Blasphemous Ballads of François Villon”.

The opening piece "1 = 1 = 1, or why I" by Erika Las was premiered in 1985 and in 1990 the last world premiere took place with the piece "Divine Sin Phony" by Pamela Czapla. The highlights included the productions: “Piaf” with Isa Hochgerner, “The beautiful apathetic”, Harold Pinter's play “Another last one” and “A conversation in the Stein house about the absent Herr von Goethe” with Monica Gruber, which was broadcast in 1991 by ZDF / 3Sat was filmed and broadcast in three parts by 3sat in 1992 . Before his death in 1994 he wrote a comedy "We women among us", which he was no longer able to perform.
