Theaters des Vampires are an Italian dark metal band with strong musical black metal influences, known for the vampirism theme in both their demeanor and song lyrics.
history
Theaters des Vampires was founded in Rome in 1994 by Alexander Nunziati and Robert Cufaro after they separated from the band Sepolcrum (later VII Arcano). All band members share a strong fascination for vampires and everything related to them, which is expressed in their music, their song lyrics and their stage performances. The band name is also borrowed from a fictional setting from the novels of the fantasy author Anne Rice . This vampirism motif contributed significantly to the growth of the fan base.
Since its inception, the band has released over ten albums and performed at various international festivals, including the Gods of Metal in Italy (2000), the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig (2003 and 2006) and the Metal Female Voices Fest in Belgium ( 2006). In addition, they went on tour with Christian Death in 2003 , which brought them additional attention.
Since 2004, the former background singer Sonya Scarlet has been the only remaining singer and band leader. She is known for cutting herself with a blade at times to make fans drink of her blood.
In January 2011 the ninth studio album Moonlight Waltz was released . At the same time, the band began a tour in Europe that was to take them to Latin America in the course of the year.
style
Theaters des Vampires combined Black and Symphonic Metal influences on their early albums . However, the musicians are not Satanists and refer to religion as "opium for the human mind". Later elements of Gothic Metal were also integrated into the music. Since the music of the band is difficult to classify overall, the term “Vampiric Metal” is often used in connection with the pronounced vampiric theme.
