The Thelebolaceae are a family of sac fungi . They are placed in their own order Thelebolales .

The fruiting bodies are small, closed and spherical to disk-shaped. The asci are sometimes multispore. Thelebolus stercoreus forms up to 2000 spores per ascus. The development of the fruiting body takes place celisto hymenial to eugymnohymenial.

Systematics

Only a few representatives of the order were included in phylogenetic studies. These were clearly placed in the class Leotiomycetes. It is not known whether the entire order is monophyletic .
