Thenmarachchi ( Tamil : தென்மராட்சி Teṉmarāṭci [ ˈtenməraːʈʂi ]) is a region on the Jaffna Peninsula in the northern province of Sri Lanka .

The Thenmarachchi region occupies the southeastern part of the Jaffna Peninsula and has an area of ​​385 square kilometers. Thenmarachchi is the vadamarachchi lagoon of the region Vadamarachchi in the north and by the Uppu Aru Lagoon of the region Valikamam separated in the west. To the south is the Jaffna lagoon . The largest city is Chavakachcheri . Administratively, the northern part of Thenmarachchi (Thenmarachchi division) belongs to the Jaffna district , the southern part (Pachchilaippalli division) to the Kilinochchi district . The population is around 73,000 (as of 2012).
