Valikamam

Valikamam ( Tamil : வலிகாமம் Valikāmam [ ˈʋaliɡaːmʌm ]) is a region on the Jaffna Peninsula in the northern province of Sri Lanka .

The Valikamam region occupies the western part of the Jaffna Peninsula. To the east is the Uppu Aru Lagoon of the region thenmarachchi and the vadamarachchi lagoon of the region Vadamarachchi separately. In the west there is a group of islands. Administratively, Valikamam belongs to the Jaffna District and comprises the divisions Jaffna, Nallur, Valikamam East, Valikamam North, Valikamam South, Valikamam South-West and Valikamam West.

The city of Jaffna , the capital of the peninsula, belongs to the Valikamam region. Valikamam is also densely populated in other ways: around 373,000 people live on 333 square kilometers (as of 2012). This means that two thirds of the total population of the Jaffna Peninsula is concentrated in Valikamam on just one third of the area.
