Theodor Andresen

Theodor Andresen (born August 29, 1907 in Gerresheim , † April 16, 1945 in Düsseldorf ) was a German building contractor and resistance fighter against the Nazi regime .

Life

Andresen was born in the then still independent town of Gerresheim , where he also spent his childhood and youth. During the Second World War , Andresen initially fought as a soldier on the Eastern Front , but returned home in 1943. The trained bricklayer worked there as a building contractor.

Andresen was married and had four children.

Resistance in Düsseldorf

In April 1945 he took part in an action by the citizens of Düsseldorf to surrender the city to the advancing American forces without a fight. A few hours before Düsseldorf was liberated, he was sentenced to death and executed. (See the main article Aktion Rheinland ) .

Andresen has a grave of honor at the Gerresheim forest cemetery in Düsseldorf. The Theodor-Andresen-Strasse in the Golzheimer Siedlung and the Theodor-Andresen School in Gerresheim were named after him.
