Theodor Rensing

Theodor Rensing (born August 1, 1894 in Waltrop-Leveringhausen ; † November 6, 1969 in Münster ) was a German historian and monument conservator .

Life

Theodor Rensing grew up in the Leveringhausen peasantry near Waltrop. He attended the elementary school in Leveringhausen and from 1904 the Humanist Gymnasium Borbeck , where he passed the Abitur in 1913. In the summer semester of 1913 he began studying modern languages ​​and Indo-European linguistics with a minor in history in Freiburg . He continued it in Munich and had to interrupt it in 1915 because he was called up for military service. In 1918 he resumed his studies, now majoring in history, in Münster and graduated in 1921 with a doctorate.

He then worked as a bookseller until he was hired on December 1, 1933 as a scientific assistant at the office of the provincial curator. In 1938 he was appointed head of inventory. In 1947 he was elected a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . From October 1, 1949, he was acting head of the cultural care department at the Westphalian provincial administration.

In October 1952 he was appointed state curator to succeed Wilhelm Rave .
