Theodor Schädler (born January 2, 1896 in Triesenberg , † December 23, 1975 in Bad Waldsee ) was a leader of the Volksdeutsche movement in Liechtenstein (VDBL) and a staunch National Socialist .

Life

Theodor Schädler was the son of master tailor Hieronymus Schädler and Rosina Schädler from Triesenberg. He was married to Amalia Deschelmayer since 1925 and had four children. Theodor Schädler studied electrical engineering . From 1929 to 1939 he was head of Lawena Kraftwerke , a Liechtenstein national company that used the Lawena River to generate electricity.

In January 1939 he was suspended from service because of his activities with the Volksdeutsche movement in Liechtenstein . On March 24, 1939, together with parts of the Vorarlberg SA and NSKK , he tried to overthrow the government of Liechtenstein under Prime Minister Josef Hoop and Prince Franz Josef II . The putsch failed after a few hours, among other things because of an intervention by Adolf Hitler . On March 25, 1939, he was arrested on the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister Alois Vogt . At the request of the German government, he was deported to Germany in December 1939. After the war, he was sentenced to an absent prison term of several years. Germany did not extradite Schadler, however. In 1956 he was pardoned by Prince Franz Josef II. Schadler stayed in Germany after the Second World War and never returned to Liechtenstein.
