The Lawena power plant is one of several hydropower plants operated by Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke (LKW) based in Schaan in Liechtenstein . The power plant (machine house, 501  m above sea level ) is located in Triesen .

The Lawena power plant uses the difference in altitude from the Lawenatal to the machine house in Triesen with about 878 meters of altitude.

History and use

The Lawena power plant was the first hydropower plant operated by the State of Liechtenstein in Liechtenstein. The forerunner organization of the Landeswerk Lawena (later Liechtenstein power stations ) was the Landes-Elektrizitätswerk Lawenawerk Liechtenstein . In a referendum on September 13, 1925, the Liechtenstein population approved the construction of the Lawenawerk, including taking out the necessary loans, with 65.8% of the valid votes.

The power plant was put into operation in 1927. The first two generators each had an output of 360  kW . In 1946 a powerful 900 kW generator was installed. In 1987 another 2.9 MW generator was put into operation. In 1987 the water intake was renewed and the equalizing tunnel and the pressure pipe were enlarged and re-routed. The Lawena power plant is the second most powerful hydropower plant in Liechtenstein after the Samina power plant .

Water law

The Lawena power plant was commissioned as early as 1927. According to § 3 of the law on the Liechtenstein power plants, the public law establishment (AöR) founded in 1947 was equipped with the contribution in kind (assets and liabilities) "of the Lawena state plant, as well as water rights to Lawena -, Samina -, Malbun and Valorschbach ", whereby According to Section 5, Paragraph 1, " the exclusive right to evaluate the water power of the Saminabach and its tributaries (Malbunbach and Valorschbach) from the source to the state border " rests with the trucks.
