Theodor Schrader (local history researcher, 1844)

Theodor Schrader (born February 22, 1844 , † March 13, 1917 ) was a German lawyer and historian .

Life

Schrader was born the son of the doctor Friedrich Nicolaus Schrader. After completing his law studies, he first became a clerk at the police court in Hamburg in 1873. In 1879 he was appointed district judge and finally in 1901 district court director.

In 1879 he joined the Association for Hamburg History (VHG), where he soon took over the office of secretary. From 1888 on, he held the office of chairman of the VHG, after having been elected deputy chairman the year before. In 1908 Schrader was made an honorary member. When he handed over his chairmanship to Hans Nirrnheim in 1912 , he was honored with the Lappenberg Medal in gold.

Schrader was sent by the VHG in 1882 to the commission for the administration of the Hamburg antiquities collection. In 1896 the high school authorities elected him to head the collection that would later become the Museum of Hamburg History . By 1908, Schrader wrote the seven editions guide to the Hamburg antiquities collection and the guide to the Museum of Hamburg History .
