Theodor Simons

Arnold Theodor Wilhelm Albert Simons (born June 5, 1813 in Soest ; † February 9, 1863 in Aachen ) was a German architect and chairman of the Association of German Engineers (VDI).

Life

Theodor Simons was the son of the businessman Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Simons (1779-1859) and his cousin Sophie Katharine Wilhelmine Luise Rocholl (1790-1857). He was baptized on July 7, 1813 in St. Pauli and grew up in Soest. He later lived in Alstaden and worked for a railway company. The documents about Simons indicate that he is an architect or building manager . In Trier Simons met Henriette Marx , a sister of Karl Marx , whom he married on September 3, 1844. The bride, who was already suffering from consumption at the time of the wedding, died on January 3, 1845. A good two years later - on January 5, 1847 - Simons married Amalie Margarethe Zimmermann for the second time, with whom he had six children.

In the first quarter of 1857 Simons joined the VDI. In the election to the board member for the year 1858 he was defeated by the Insterburg master carpenter Heinrich Braunschweig. At the third general meeting of the VDI in Dresden in August 1860, Simons was elected chairman for the year 1861. At that time Simons was director of the Königl. Saarbrücken-Trier-Luxembourg Railway, Saarbrücken . He died as director of the Royal Aachen-Düsseldorf-Ruhrorter Eisenbahn and chairman of the VDI district association Aachen after a long illness.
