Theodor Weber (painter)
Theodor Alexander Weber (born May 11, 1838 in Leipzig , † March 1907 in Paris ) was a German painter .
In 1853, at the age of 15, Weber became a student of the marine painter Wilhelm Krause in Berlin . Through his recommendation Weber was accepted as a student by Eugène Isabey in Paris two years later . On the occasion of the major exhibition of the Paris Salon in 1861 Weber made his debut with his works City View and Shipwreck .
When the Franco-Prussian War broke out in 1870 , Weber anticipated his internment as an undesirable German and went into exile in London . From 1874 Weber lived and worked in Brussels , and in the summer of 1883 he settled back in Paris as a freelance artist.
In contrast to sketchy realism , Weber placed the main emphasis in all of his artistic work on solid painting style and correct drawing.
